Wednesday 11th June – Head of Ayr farm park trip.  Please note that each child must be accompanied by their own parent / carer.

NURSERY SUMMER TRIP UPDATE!!!

As you are all aware we have organised a nursery trip to Heads of Ayr Farm Park on Wednesday 11th June.  We have been fund raising towards this trip throughout the year, unfortunately we have been unable to raise enough funds throughout the year to cover the cost of the whole trip.

Each child must be accompanied by their parent / carer or another responsible family member.  Your child will not be able to attend the trip if they do not have parent / carer / responsible adult with them.  The cost of the trip will be £21 for each family, this covers the cost of coach transport and entry to the farm park for the child and their parent / carer / responsible adult.  The £21 cost for the trip should be paid to Jane at the front office, at your earliest convenience.

We will meet in nursery at 9am the bus will be leaving nursery at 915 and then we will be leaving Heads of Ayr Farm park at 2pm.

Some families have approached me asking if younger siblings can attend the trip, this is NOT possible.  The trip is only for nursery children, as we do not have any additional space on the coaches.

If there are any families that do not want to come on the trip, or have any queries please speak to me as soon as possible.

PRE SCHOOL GRADUATION UPDATE!!!

We have had to rearrange the date for our Pre-school graduation, due a clash with St Vincent’s sports day.

Our Pre-school graduation will now take place on Tuesday 17th June @ 11am.  If your child is graduating and attends nursery for a PM session, we would kindly ask that they attend for a morning session on this day only.  If you have any questions please see Claire Morrison, Head of Nursery.

SICKNESS AND ILLNESS POLICY REMINDER

Any child who is unwell should not attend, regardless of whether they have a confirmed infection.  Children with diarrhoea and/or vomiting should be excluded until they have had no symptoms for 48 hours after an episode of diarrhoea and/or vomiting.  Coughs and runny noses alone need not be a reason for exclusion but if the child is unwell, they should not attend.  Skin rashes should be professionally diagnosed, and a child should only be excluded following appropriate advice.

Children should only be excluded when there is good reason.  Families will be contacted if children appear unwell or complain of being unwell, for any reason, and unable to cope with nursery.

If your child is unwell at home and is unable to attend nursery, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible.

TOY FUND

Toy Fund is a voluntary suggested contribution of £2 per week, however you may pay more or less if you wish.  Toy Fund helps us provide extras that we wouldn’t normally be able to do such as outings, celebrations and gifts, all children benefit from the toy fund, so please try to contribute when you can.  If we have no Toy Fund then we will be unable to continue with seasonal shows or seasonal / birthday treats for the children and outings, there will be no baking or cooking activities.

Toy fund can be paid weekly on a Tuesday in nursery to Jane Gunn, Clerical Support Assistant or by bank transfer, please speak to Jane Gunn, Clerical Support Assistant if you wish to pay via bank transfer.

Toy Fund contributions are banked each week, and the books and receipts are always available for inspection.  The toy fund is audited annually according to the council’s financial regulations.

REMINDERS

Clothing - As part of our curriculum we play outside in all weathers so please make sure your child comes to nursery suitably dressed.  It is advisable to bring a change of clothes for your child to leave at nursery. We do not have any spare clothes, so this is essential, as learning can be a messy business.  If your child has been sent home with spare nursery clothes, could you please ensure that you return these ASAP.

Children should also have shoes that they can manage to take on and off by themselves, ideally Velcro straps are best.

Suncream – Please be advised that in sunny weather, children must arrive at nursery with factor 30 or above sun cream already applied by their parent / carer, nursery staff will top this up as and when required.  All families were advised of this at induction.  It has come to our attention that many children are arriving at nursery without suncream on and so parents are having to apply the emergency suncream available in the nursery cloakroom.  This suncream is for emergency use only, it is not to be used in place of your own suncream, nor is it to be used for siblings who do not attend Thornlaw Nursery.  We do not have enough nursery funds to supply suncream for everyone and their siblings.

Children’s Trays – Each child has their own allocated tray, located opposite the Head of Nursery’s office.  Please ensure that you check your child’s tray daily, as you will find important information here.

Attention all Parents and families

Please refrain from using mobile phones in the nursery.

It is nursery policy that mobile phones are not used within the nursery.  This helps to ensure the privacy and respect of the children and families using the nursery.  Your child will also be keen to talk to you about their day and will want to know you are listening to them and able to respond.  Please make your calls or texts before or after you enter the building.

Please note that taking photographs / video of your children whilst they are playing outside in the nursery garden is strictly prohibited.  Be mindful that there are other children playing who have the right to privacy.

NURSERY ARRIVAL AND COLLECTION TIMES

It has been noted that there are some families that are arriving late to collect their child.  Please be aware that arriving late for your child can be very upsetting for them, as they are seeing their friends leave and they are wandering where their parent / carer is.  We are also ratio driven and must adhere to strict adult to child ratios, when you are late to collect your child, you are compromising our adult to child ratio.  It is not acceptable to arrive after your allocated pick-up time, please ensure you arrive on time for your child.

Unless you have been given different instructions from your child’s key worker – sessions are as follows.

MORNING SESSION

08.00-12.45
