I would like to inform parents that I will be retiring this Summer. As Head Teacher at Thornlaw Nursery School I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all the children who have attended, the many parents who have entrusted their children into my care and my fantastic staff who have made this nursery such a success. I have always enjoyed getting up in the morning and coming to nursery to be greeted by children who are enthusiastic and eager to learn. My staff know how much I appreciate them but it’s sometimes nice to put it in writing because they are the people who make Thornlaw great. It has been a privilege to work in this community and forge relationships and I will miss everyone. I have taken great pleasure in seeing hundreds of children flourish as confident, successful young people and it has been a great privilege but the time is now right for someone else to take over the reins and lead Thornlaw forward on its next exciting chapter. My best wishes go to its continued success and I will follow their endeavours with interest

CURRENT LEARNING PLAN

Our current learning plan is based on the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This short story by Eric Carle is filled with moral questions on the topics of self-control, well-being and happiness, growth and change. The caterpillar eats more and more with each passing day until he does not feel good. It takes eating a ‘nice leaf’ to make him feel better. Eric Carle says, ‘This book is about HOPE. It says: you too can grow up and unfold your wings and fly away’

We hope that, by the end of the plan, children will have some knowledge about

  • The differences between Spring/Summer
  • The story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • The days of the week
  • Nutrition and a healthy lifestyle
  • The lifecycle of different insects/animals
  • Why caterpillars are important (they change into butterflies/moths and pollinate plants)
  • Making good choices/decisions

Our full learning plan is on our Webpage (address below) where you will see our specific focus for Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and  Numeracy and our Seasonal, Cultural or Festive Focus
